Kelly Ewing is a northern designer born in Glasgow and raised in Leeds. It wasn’t long after her label launch in 2008 that she captivated the northern fashion scene with her unique style and designs. Her items are now stocked in over 50 stores and boutiques, many in which as the only independent designer and with more on the way.
Fashion has always been an area of keen interest for Kelly, and from an early age she began experimenting with fabrics, tailoring, and designing her own items. She pursued this hobby into a career, studying a GNVQ at Leeds College of Art and Design followed by a BSc in Textile design at the University of Huddersfield. Her own signature style comes from fusing her talents in design and tailoring together with her extensive knowledge of fabric construction.
Inspiration for Kelly’s designs originates from Victorian Aristocracy through to Pre-Raphaelite Romanticism. Her collection features designs ranging from well-structured traditional pieces, including boned corsetry, through to simplistic yet incredibly stylish and modern pieces such as A-Line dresses. All her designs are taken into a whole new element through a range of contemporary twists combined with skilful pattern cutting and sharp tailoring. Vintage fabrics, such as Harris Tweed, are pleated and draped to create a luxurious couture collection, complimented perfectly by contrasting silk linings and delicate handmade corsage detailing.
The Kelly Ewing consumer is a confident, modern woman, whose life aspirations are mirrored throughout her style and fashion choices. She remains feminine whilst uncompromisingly independent, and her style is never led by trend, but rather by a love for exquisite design and complimented by a lust and desire for all things rare and luxurious.
Since the label launched in 2008, Kelly has had many accomplishments. One of which was winning the ‘Best Dressed’ competition at York Races in 2010, by wearing one of her own designs and receiving the honour to go to Dubai the following year as her prize. She has shown her collections four years running at Leeds Fashion Show and created dresses for Xfactor shows, worn by Amelia Lily, and then Leigh-Anne from Little Mix at the live final at Wembley in 2011 where they won the show. Kelly’s work has also been published in an array of magazines, including everything from The Daily Mail to The Leeds Guide and Professional Hairdresser to a full feature in Look magazine and front cover and full feature of TEN10 Magazine.
